Features
Insulation
The sealing rate of the XPS extruded board structure is greater than 99%, forming a vacuum layer to avoid airflow heat dissipation and ensure the long-term stability of its thermal insulation performance, while the sealing rate of foamed polyurethane is only 80%, which proves that the thermal insulation effect of 20mm thick XPS extruded insulation board is equivalent to 50mm thick foamed polystyrene and 120mm thick cement perlite, which is the preferred material for building insulation at present.
Hydrophobic and moisture-proof
The thermal insulation performance of the insulation material decreases after absorbing water. The absorbed water is easy to freeze at low temperatures, destroying the structure of the insulation material and reducing the compressive and thermal insulation performance of the insulation board. Since the molecular structure of polystyrene itself does not absorb water, the molecular structure of the board is stable and has no gaps, which solves the problems of leakage, penetration, freezing, and condensation of other materials.
High compressive strength
Due to its special structure, XPS extruded board has very high compressive strength and strong impact resistance. The compressive strength is above 150~500kpa, which can withstand the ground load of various systems. It is widely used in geothermal engineering, highways, airport runways, square floors, large cold storage, automobile interiors and insulation.
Good stability and corrosion resistance
XPS extruded board has extremely stable chemical properties. It will not age, decompose, or produce harmful substances after long-term use. Even after 30 years of use, it can still maintain excellent performance, will not rot, mold, or volatilize toxic substances.

Classification by use
XPS board for building insulation: Has excellent thermal insulation performance, compressive strength and moisture resistance.
XPS board for cold chain logistics: Requires good thermal insulation performance, low temperature resistance and moisture resistance.
XPS board for floor heating: As the insulation layer of the floor heating system, it reduces the downward loss of heat. It is required to have high compressive strength and thermal insulation performance.
XPS board for road engineering: Used for thermal insulation and anti-freezing of road engineering such as highways and airport runways. It is required to have high compressive strength and durability.

ENVIRONMENTAL AND SUSTAINABILITY CONSIDERATIONS
Even though Extruded Polystyrene insulation has several benefits, it has some environmental drawbacks too. One such crucial one is that XPS is non-biodegradable and hence may remain in landfills for quite some time unless it is disposed of properly. However, attempts are being made to tackle such problems by going through recycling mechanisms. Certain companies are also trying to make XPS more recyclable, with development focused on converting the material for reuse and reselling in an increasingly circular economy.
Moreover, manufacturers have started using low-GWP formulations, such as DuPont’s grey XPS, which have been designed to reduce the environmental impact during production. These possess different blowing agents with a lower environmental impact compared to traditional systems.
