I. National Standard for Paper-Faced Gypsum Board

GB/T 9775-2008 Paper-Faced Gypsum Board.

II. Classification and Applications of Paper-Faced Gypsum Board

1. Ordinary Paper-Faced Gypsum Board (Code P)

This type of gypsum board uses building gypsum as the main raw material, with appropriate amounts of fiber reinforcement materials and additives added. After being mixed with water, it is poured between the face paper and backing paper, firmly bonding them together.

Ordinary gypsum board is mostly gray in color. It is the most commonly used gypsum board in living rooms, bedrooms, and other areas of the home.

2. Water-resistant paper-faced gypsum board (code S)

This gypsum board contains water-resistant additives, resulting in a water absorption rate of no more than 10% and a surface water absorption of no more than 160g/m². The paper surface is light green.

Suitable for use in kitchens and bathrooms where continuous humidity does not exceed 95%.

3. Fire-resistant paper-faced gypsum board (code H)

This type of gypsum board incorporates inorganic refractory fiber reinforcement materials and additives. The board's fire stability time should be no less than 20 minutes. The paper surface is typically pink.

Suitable for locations with fire protection requirements; unnecessary for home renovations.

4 . Moisture-resistant paper-faced gypsum board

This category is not included in national standards, but various brands produce it. The color is also light green.

The difference between moisture-resistant gypsum board and water-resistant gypsum board is that water-resistant gypsum board has water-resistant materials added to its core material, while moisture-resistant gypsum board only has a water-resistant treatment on the paper surface, such as adding silicone oil, but the core material does not contain water-resistant materials.

Moisture-resistant gypsum board is half the price of water-resistant gypsum board and is fine for use in the kitchen. Water-resistant gypsum board is recommended for bathrooms where showering is frequent.

Paper Color Specifications

There are no national requirements for the paper color of various types of gypsum board. It is determined by convention or by the board itself. Common colors include white and blue.

III. Dimensions and Weight of Paper-Faced Gypsum Board

1. Length and Width

The most common size is 1.22*2.44m, but other sizes include 0.9*1.8m, 1.2*2.4m, and 0.6*1.5m.

2. Thickness

Thicknesses include 9.5 mm, 12.0 mm, 15.0 mm, 18.0 mm, 210 mm, and 25.0 mm.

9.5mm thick gypsum board is commonly used for ceilings, while 12mm thick gypsum board is commonly used for partitions.

3. Weight (Surface Density)

The weight of gypsum board per mm thickness per square meter should not exceed 1 kg. For example, the surface density of a 9.5mm thick gypsum board is 9.5 kg/m². A 1.22*2.44m gypsum board would weigh 1.22*2.44*9.5 = 5.1 kg.

Lighter gypsum board is better.
