GB/T26204-2010 Explained: Critical Specifications for Gypsum Board Liner Board – A Guide for New Production Lines

Why GB/T26204-2010 Matters for Modern Gypsum Board Production

Gypsum board manufacturers know that the quality of the finished panel depends heavily on the liner board – the paper that wraps the gypsum core. In China, the mandatory standard GB/T26204-2010 (Plaster liner board) defines exactly how this material should perform. For engineers and procurement teams planning new capacity, understanding this standard is not optional; it is the foundation of consistent output.

Key classifications and grades
The standard divides liner board into face board (carrying the gypsum slurry during forming) and back board (covering the top). Both are further classified into three quality grades: premium, first-class, and qualified. Basis weight ranges from 160 g/m² to 225 g/m², with a tolerance of ±3% for premium grade. Tightness, air permeability (Schopper or Gurley method), surface water absorption (Cobb method, 60 seconds), brightness (≥40%), and tensile strength are all strictly regulated. For example, premium face board must achieve longitudinal tensile strength of at least 10.5 kN/m and transverse strength of 4.0 kN/m.

Why a new factory needs strict compliance

When sourcing Gypsum board paper for new factory lines, many buyers focus only on price or grammage. That is a mistake. The standard demands that the paper has proper adhesion to the gypsum core, uniform color, no delamination, and controlled shrinkage (≤2.8% for premium grade). Deviation in air permeability – say, below 2.20 μm/(Pa·s) – can cause blistering or poor core bonding. Imagine commissioning a high-speed board line only to find that the liner board fails the water absorption test (face ≤40 g/m², back ≤80 g/m²). Production stops, waste piles up, and profits evaporate. That is why every serious Gypsum board paper for new factory project should include a pre-shipment verification of these seven critical indicators: basis weight deviation, tightness, permeability, water absorption, tensile, shrinkage, and moisture content (8–14%).

Dimensional and roll quality matters

GB/T26204-2010 also specifies width: face board from 1225 mm to 1295 mm, back board from 850 mm to 1205 mm, both with ±5 mm tolerance. Roll diameter can range from 1100 mm to 1800 mm, and each roll must be marked with the paper's running direction. For a Gypsum board paper for new factory setting up automated splicing systems, incorrect width or missing direction markings can disrupt the entire production line. Moreover, the standard limits splices (e.g., premium grade allows at most one splice per roll) and requires proper outer packaging with end caps to prevent crushing during transport.

Practical advice for buyers

Always request a certificate of analysis based on GB/T26204-2010. Check the test methods (GB/T451.2 for basis weight, GB/T1540 for water absorption, GB/T12914 for tensile). For export shipments, add extra moisture-proof wrapping – the standard allows 8–14% moisture, but sea air can easily push it beyond that. Finally, remember that a reliable supplier will offer not just paper but also technical support to help your new line run smoothly. By following the national standard, you protect your equipment, your product quality, and your bottom line
