Is Gypsum Board Truly Mold-Proof?

1. Why Does Gypsum Board Mold? Identifying the Root Cause

Nutrient Base:
The core of gypsum board is gypsum (calcium sulfate), which itself is not a "food source" for mold. However, the paper surface (face paper) on the gypsum board, as well as dust and organic matter accumulated during storage and construction, can provide a breeding ground for mold.

Moisture is the Key Factor.
Moisture can come from several sources:

Humid Environment: Prolonged high humidity - such as in seaside areas, basements, or regions with long rainy seasons.

Physical Leakage: Leaky pipes, water seepage through walls, or roof leaks. These are the most serious and fastest causes of mold growth.

Improper Construction: Installing the board before it is completely dry, or storing it on a damp surface.

2. How to Provide "Mold-Proof" Protection

(1) Basic Gypsum Board – How to Prevent Mold

This is a standard gypsum board and is not mold-proof. It is suitable for use in well-ventilated, dry indoor environments.
If it must be used in damp areas such as kitchens, bathrooms, or basements, it should be combined with an effective moisture-proof coating and a good ventilation system.

(2) Moisture-Resistant Gypsum Board – Our Primary Anti-Mold Solution

It typically features:

Moisture-Resistant Facing Paper: A specially treated green or blue paper surface that offers far superior water resistance compared with standard gray paper.

Core Additives: A hydrophobic agent, such as silicone oil, is added to the gypsum slurry to impart a degree of moisture resistance to the board core.

Principle:
Our moisture-resistant gypsum board incorporates hydrophobic materials into both the core and the paper surface, significantly reducing moisture penetration and absorption. This effectively eliminates the moisture conditions necessary for mold growth, greatly reducing the risk of mold in humid environments.

Note: Moisture-resistant does not mean waterproof. While it can resist moisture in the air, it cannot withstand prolonged exposure to standing water or continuous water leakage.

3. Professional Mold-Resistant Gypsum Board

For customers with extremely demanding environmental requirements, we offer a specialized mold-resistant board. In addition to the features of the moisture-resistant board, this product incorporates a mold inhibitor into the core to actively suppress mold spore growth.

It is suitable for environments with constant temperature and humidity, high-humidity areas, and locations with exceptionally strict hygiene requirements.
