Surface & Edging: Boards are of high quality when they are flat, smooth, have a single colour, and no visible section differences in colour (no "water marks"). A rough surface that breaks down easily means the board is made of inferior raw materials or that the curing process was inadequate.

Weight and Density: This is a fairly easy indicator to interpret. That is because, when handling boards, you'll notice that higher-quality boards of similar sizes will feel much heavier in your hands due to their much denser internal composition. Higher density means greater strength, greater durability, greater fire and sound resistance. Water Absorption and Swelling Rate: Fiber cement boards need to maintain stability with changing temperatures and humidity levels, and low water absorption is the trait of premium boards because it indicates excellent water resistance, and the boards are less likely to swell and deform and lose strength from moisture. Durability Certification: Pay attention to freeze-thaw resistance (for cold regions) and weather resistance (UV resistance, weathering resistance) tests. Some high-end products offer quality guarantees of 10 years or more.

Without professional equipment, you can perform several simple on-site tests:

Water Drops Test: Take a handful of water and sprinkle the water on the board's surface and watch how the water interacts with the board. When drilling, the resistance should feel uniform, and the edges of the hole should be neat. Inferior boards may show cracking or delamination around the drilled hole.

The quality of a product is rooted in its manufacturing source. When inquiring about prices, it's worthwhile to learn more about:

Raw Materials: Are the core raw materials high-grade cement, selected siliceous materials, and high-quality cellulose or synthetic fibers? High-quality raw materials form the foundation of performance.

 

Production Process: Is the advanced "flow-casting method" used? This method produces boards with less delamination and more uniform density and strength. Compared to the traditional "sheet-forming method," flow-casting products generally have superior and more stable performance.

 

Brand and History: While new brands may also have good products, a manufacturer with a long-standing reputation in the market and a focus on fiber cement boards typically offers more reliable product stability and technological expertise.
